Practice now includes eight board-certified obstetrician/gynecologists, a family nurse practitioner, and nurse-midwife services.
The Oregon Clinic, the state’s largest multi-specialty, physician-owned medical practice, is expanding its Obstetrics and Gynecology (OB/GYN) practice to better meet the needs of Portland-area women. The group has added nurse-midwife services and now includes the physicians and staff from Women’s Health Today, a well-respected private practice dedicated to exceptional women’s health care services since 1986.
Oscar Polo, MD, with Women’s Health Today, shared his enthusiasm about joining The Oregon Clinic: “We have always held the physicians of The Oregon Clinic in high regard. With the changes in healthcare it has become increasingly difficult to operate as a smaller group. As an OB/GYN team at The Oregon Clinic, we look forward to continuing to deliver patients the highest level of obstetrics and gynecologic care.” The addition of Women’s Health Today brings four board-certified obstetricians/gynecologists, three certified nurse-midwives, and a family nurse practitioner to The Oregon Clinic:
“The growing Portland population means there are more and more women in our community in need of quality gynecological care and we are thrilled to have the esteemed physicians and medical staff from Women’s Health Today join our practice,” stated Jill Shaw, DO, The Oregon Clinic. “The addition of their group allows us to offer patients the option to consult with a certified nurse-midwife or family nurse practitioner when appropriate, expanding our line of care.”
In response to an increasing demand for midwifery services in the Portland area, The Oregon Clinic has added nurse-midwife services to its OB/GYN group. Nurse-midwives provide sensitive, holistic health care to women throughout their lifespan including prenatal and postpartum care, births, annual exams, birth control planning, and menopause. As part of the maternity services provided by The Oregon Clinic OB/GYN group, the certified nurse-midwives will support and care for women with low-risk pregnancies while providing compassionate, competent care that is focused on education and overall health. Midwives support a variety of birth choices, including natural childbirth methods or pain medications if desired, all provided in a safe and nurturing environment. The formation of this new service will guarantee the support and presence of a nurse-midwife at birth, and the opportunity to get to know all of the midwives in this small, intimate group during prenatal care.
“Research shows that nurse-midwives have lower c-section rates, perform fewer interventions for mother and baby, and earn higher satisfaction rates, all while providing safe, quality care,” stated Dr. Shaw. “We are thrilled to add formal nurse-midwife services to the array of options at The Oregon Clinic, giving our patients a choice in how they want to manage their pregnancy and childbirth.”
